Showcase
The Topeka Branch celebrated the 150th anniversaries of Kansas Territory and Topeka with the Kansas Prairie Showcase on Saturday, November 6, 2004. Displays of art (scenes of the prairie), music (sounds of the prairie) and writings (words from the prairie) filled the gallery in the Woman's Club in Topeka. In the auditorium Celia Daniels and Cynthia Pederson presented readings about prairie plants, prairie people, and prairie poetry. Elizabeth Nichols presents songs and legends of Indian Flutes, and Edith Lessenden Chandler told stories, "OOpsy Daisy," the tale of a milk cow who fell through the roof of the sod house, and "Prairie Fire", the story of pioneers who survived a prairie fire. Julie Rivers, at the piano, played music inspired by the lands.
