Celia Daniels

Celia A. Daniels writes poetry, essays and articles.  Her poetry has been published in Kansas Quarterly, Nebraska English Journal, Anthropology and Humanism Quarterly and a number of other journals and anthologies. She also has a book of poems on anthropological topics entitled Fissures (Canton, CT: Singular Speech Press, 1993) which she co-authored with her sister, and fellow Pen Woman, Cynthia  Pederson. The two have given joint poetry readings as well as “solo” readings and presentations.

Ms. Daniels has published articles for children in Faces: A Magazine About People from Cobblestone Publishing. Her essays and articles for adults have appeared in both local and national publications. She has also written curriculum materials related to anthropology and archaeology.

Celia was raised and still lives in Topeka, Kansas.  She graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. from Washburn University and earned a Masters degree in Museum Studies from the University of Kansas.  For fifteen years she directed the public education program at the K.U. Museum of Anthropology and she is currently a museum consultant specializing in museum education and ethnographic collections. Her hobbies include travel, visiting museums, and spending time with her five cats (opening cans of tuna, pulling strings,  taking catnaps, etc.) as well as collecting books which she doesn’t seem to have time to read.

Celia Daniels is on the Kansas Humanities Council Speaker’s Bureau offering programs Fabric of Our Lives (which explores the rich variety of textiles from cultures around the world) and Papyrus to Paperbacks: A History of Books (an artifact-based historical overview of books and writing.) These can be booked through the Kansas Humanities Council for $50. Some restrictions apply. Please check the web site www.kansashumanities.org/programs/speakers_bureau/speakers.html
